Gregory Bocak

Gregory has nearly 30 years experience as a controls design professional and is an International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Automation Professional. A native of New Jersey, he attended Bergen Community College. He then joined Elnik Instruments, an Industrial Instrument manufacturer, where he worked as an instrument technician. Subsequently, Gregory held positions at John Fluke Manufacturing and Process Controls and Systems Integration prior to founding Atlantic Controls Corporation in 1998, where he remains president.

 

Gregory has been the primary point of contact for the maintenance and technical services contracts Vronay Engineering has to service the automation and controls systems of three, medium-speed, dual-fuel engines installed at a 120-MGD wastewater treatment facility in New York City. His responsibilities include first response for calls when the plant has difficulty with any of the engine systems, ranging from troubleshooting and repairing controls to furnishing and overseeing components for the gas compression system, the lube oil systems, fuel oil systems, etc.

 

Gregory was also an integral part of the Vronay Engineering team that executed two New York Power Authority (NYPA)-funded engine upgrade projects for the Owls Head wastewater treatment plant in Brooklyn. This effort culminated in the generation of complete automation system drawings and detailed specifications for the new engine control panels, interface with the ABB (formerly Bailey) plant DCS system, with Gregory serving as technical team leader for the design of the automation integration for the equipment to be supplied for a completely new, state-of-the-art gas compression and cleaning system. The work, from receipt of notice to delivery of the final specifications and drawings, was completed in six months. The gas compressor, gas cleaning system and engine automation upgrades are scheduled for completion in 2014. During construction, Vronay Engineering will be furnishing design services as part of the construction management team.

  • PLC/DCS programming of virtually all brands of PLC, including A-B, GE, and others
  • HMI product manager for W&H graphics package, utilizing Intellution FIX ver.6.1 and iFIX SCADA
  • Configuring HMI packages in an NT4.0 environment
  • Ethernet (TCP/IP) and DH+ networking
  • Electrical schematic design, including 480VAC motor control
  • Configuration of VFDs, A-B stepper motor controllers
  • Review and direction of the efforts of control system and software engineers
  • Writing operating, troubleshooting guides; operator training
  • Preparation of electrical and automation bid packages, including functional and detailed specs
  • Field startups throughout the U.S. and Canada
  • Extensive experience w/Bailey Infi-90 DCS setup, including hardware, software and graphics
  • Field instrumentation selection, transmitters, actuators, motor controllers, etc.
  • Computer equipment selection, including interfacing hardware and software drivers
