Bruce Sommers

Bruce Sommers, P.E. has 25 years of experience working as an electrical and controls system engineer with extensive application knowledge regarding the design, installation and commissioning of complex, multimedia control systems.

As a field engineer for a manufacturer of advanced, high-speed vessel ride control systems, Bruce conducted commissioning duties for complex, state-of-the-art, microprocessor-controlled, hydraulic systems, including the setup of servo sub-systems, controller tuning, and system setup. Fiber optic network system design, installation and cable termination, system testing, and network setup were also regular duties. Integration with the propulsion systems, typically medium-speed diesel engines and/or gas turbines was a key part of this work. Bruce also served as a field engineer in a coal-fired 60MW steam power generating station while employed with the DuPont Company.

As part of the Vronay Engineering team, Bruce supervises design and drafting for electrical and controls system design, performs and directs onsite troubleshooting and programming of controls, and advises clients with regard to selection of controls system equipment and software. He’s also a talented designer of systems, including equipment arrangement, piping and conduit routing, and coordination of drawings between systems and/or contracts.

Bruce holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Purdue University. In addition, he holds the following professional licenses: U.S. Coast Guard, Chief Engineer for Motor Vessels of up to 4,000 Horsepower; State of California, Registered Professional Engineer, Electrical Engineering; and State of Maryland, Registered Professional Engineer, Electrical Engineering.
